Laser treatments are capable of so much more than we realize!

Aesthetic laser procedures can remove hair, pigmentation, improve skin texture, large pores, sunspots, rosacea, scars, capillaries, help minimize fine lines and wrinkles, tighten and rejuvenate skin overall. After extensive research, Dr. Tumi selected the Sciton Joule TM Laser as his preferred technology for addressing and correcting these common concerns of the skin. The technology of Sciton is always at the cutting edge of providing the most comprehensive array of aesthetic procedures, often in a single session customized to the individual. The Sciton HALO TM, the world’s first hybrid fractional laser, can now achieve results in as little as 1 – 2 treatments with minimum downtime whereas traditional lasers would require 5 – 6 treatments with 1 – 2 weeks of recovery. Laser/BBL Pre-Treatment Instructions

Prior to ANY LASER/LIGHT procedure, patients should be on a course of medical grade skincare to pre-treat and optimize skin health. This will allow for a better treatment, faster recovery and will optimize results. Healthy skin responds better to treatment:
  • Arrive one hour prior to your treatment for application of topical numbing cream. Inform your Provider of any cardiac, pulmonary, vascular conditions and allergies prior to treatment.
  • You cannot have any sun exposure for a minimum of 6 weeks prior to your procedure.
  • You must not have any pigment applied to the skin ie-spray tan or products that stimulate pigment production.
  • You must not have any cold sores or fever blisters on the face. Any lesions MUST be completely healed with fresh skin. If you are prone to cold sores, you should take an antiviral medication prior to treatment.
  • Stop all RETINOIDS one week prior to treatment.
  • You must not have had any chemical peels, LASER hair reduction treatments on your face or electrolysis 6 weeks prior to your procedure.
  • If you have been on ANTIBIOTICS please consult with your Provider. Antibiotics make skin more “photo-sensitive” and you should be off them for a period of time prior to your procedure.
  • If you have been on ACCUTANE, you must wait a minimum of 6 months before having any LASER or LIGHT TREATMENTS.
  • You can NOT be PREGNANT or NURSING
  • Redness and swelling are normal and expected and may persist for up to 7 days post treatment
  • Pinpoint bleeding may occur and last up to 72 hours
  • You may use cool compresses to relieve any discomfort
  • You may take acetaminophen for discomfort
  • If you are prone to Herpes Simplex Virus or Fever Blisters you should be prescribed and anti-viral to minimize the risk of developing a cold sore post procedure
  • Cleanse your skin twice daily-am and pm- with the post procedure products suggested by your provider
  • Apply a water based light moisturizer liberally to the skin through-out the day
  • Application of SPF min 30 is a MUST post procedure if you are outside. Reapply EVERY 2 hours. Failure to do so may result in blistering, infection, scaring, hyper/hypopigmentation which may be permanent
  • Sun exposure should be avoided for 3 months post procedure
  • You will experience periorbital (around the eyes) swelling the next day. Hydrate and mobilize to encourage the excess fluids to flush from your system.
  • No exercise for a minimum or 3 days post treatment
  • No hot tubs, jacuzzi, sauna, whirlpool bath for a minimum or 3 days post treatment
  • No alcohol for a minimum 3 days post treatment
  • Your skin will take on a “bronzed” look and feel like “sandpaper”. This is called “MEND’s”-Microscopic Epithelial Necrotic Debris”. This is microscopic wounding and is part of the healing process as your skin purges
the damaged tissue. The damaged tissue will be replaced with healthy new tissue. DO NOT pick your skin or aggressively exfoliate the MEND’s. Doing so may lead to infection, scarring and other complications. Allow the skin to flake and peel on it’s own. This process may take 3-7 days
  • You may restart your normal skin care routine 5-7 days after treatment. Your skin may still be sensitive-exfoliating and retinol products may not be tolerated for up to 3 weeks post procedure
  • Avoid getting shampoo and conditioner on your skin
  • After the MEND’s have resolved, your skin will have a rosy pink glow that will gradually resolve
  • Results will be seen up to 6 months post treatment

Botox® Cosmetic

Botox has been used for wrinkle therapy since the early 1990s.

What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria. Botox injection treatment is quick, and results usually last for three to six months.

How Does It Work?

A small amount of Botulinum toxin is injected right into the muscles that are responsible for creating wrinkles or undesirable facial muscle effects. It temporarily inactivates the muscles that produce wrinkles, thereby causing lines to disappear or diminish dramatically. It usually takes a few days after the injection to notice the wrinkle-smoothing effect. Some of the common areas treated with botox include crow’s feet, frown lines, laugh lines and forehead wrinkles. The toxin can also be injected to weaken the muscles responsible for a “gummy smile,” which can improve this appearance dramatically. Injections into muscles that lower the eyebrow or corners of the mouth can produce a temporary brow lift or lip lift.

Benefits of Botox® Cosmetic

1. Quick Results
2. Little Pain
3. Youthful Appearance

Post Treatment

After the first treatment, you may return for follow-up injections. Some doctors report that after several treatments, the effect of Botox Cosmetic® appears to last longer, often up to several months. While most women do not experience complications, it’s important to understand and discuss them with Dr. Tumi during your consultation.
Meet Dr. Tumi

The Ideal Candidate for Botox® Cosmetic

Almost anyone can use Botox® Cosmetic; however, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or who have a neurological disease should not use it. New uses for Botulinum toxin include a reduction in sweating of hands and armpits (hyperhidrosis) and relief of headaches. Dr. Tumi will discuss the details of this with you.

Types of Dermal Fillers

• Human fat (autologous fat) is harvested from your own body. Using your own fat requires a more extensive procedure other than injectable fillers. You must undergo liposuction to extract the fat prior to injection. You do eliminate the risk of an allergic reaction or rejection from the body. Not all the cells survive when they are placed in a new site. You can expect a high rate of reabsorption. To try to avoid this, doctors usually overfill the area that is being treated.

• Hyaluronic acid A natural substance that is found in your body. There are high concentrations that are found in soft connective tissue and in the fluid surrounding your eyes. It is also in some cartilage, joint fluids and skin tissue. This same substance is often injected into the aching joints of people with arthritis to ease the pain. Hyaluronic acid is not derived from animal sources. Brand names: Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane, Captique, Esthelis, Elevess, Hylaform, Prevelle and Puragen. The most common ones used in Dr. Tumi’s office are Restylane, Juvederm and Perlane.

• Collagen a natural substance (protein). It is the main component in cartilage, teeth and bones. It either comes from human skin or cows (bovine collagen) Brand names: CosmoDerm, Cosmoplast, Zyderm, Zyplast. The human cadaveric dermis is skin that is cultivated from a cadaver and injected into your face. This results in an impressive filling of facial hollows. Brand names: Cymetra, Dermalogen, and Fascias.

• Calcium hydroxylapatite is the heaviest filler and is found naturally in human bones. It is a mineral reserved to fill the deepest creases like nasolabial folds, marionette lines and frown lines. It can also be used to enhance the fullness of cheeks and other facial contours Brand names: Radiesse and Radiance.

• Polylactic acid is a synthetic material. It stimulates the body’s own collagen. This is generally best used in the lower half of the face to fill lines caused by laughing, augment the lips and fill nasolabial folds. Unlike the other dermal fillers, the results are not immediate. It stimulates collagen production, so the results appear gradually over a period of a few months. Brand names: Sculptra and New-fill.

• Semi-Permanent PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) fillers contain about 20% of tiny PMMA microspheres that are suspended in 80% of purified collagen gel. It can be removed. It is most often used to treat medium to deep wrinkles, folds and furrows, especially nasolabial folds. It can also be used to fill out pitted scars and also to augment the lips. Brand names: Articol, Artefill and Metacrill

Ideal candidates for dermal fillers are in good health, don’t smoke, and have realistic goals for their results.

Mole Removal

Eliminate non-cancerous and cancerous mole with mole removal surgery.

What is Mole Removal?

Mole recovery surgery removes non-cancerous or cancerous moles from the skin. A mole is a cluster of skin cells that can show up on various parts of the body. Most moles are benign, meaning they are not cancerous.

Mole Removal Procedure

To remove the mole, your plastic surgeon will numb the area and use a scalpel to cut out the mole and use stitches to close the incision. Your plastic surgeon may send the mole to a specialist to evaluate it for cancer.

Mole Removal Risks

Mole removal surgery leaves a scar. The scar may disappear on its own but that depends on factors such as your age and the location of the mole. The biggest risk post surgery is that the site could get infected. To avoid infection, follow all of the instructions your plastic surgeon gives you to keep the site clean and covered.

Scar Management

Minimize the look of small scars with scar management surgery.

What is Scar Management?

Scar management, also known as scar revision, is a procedure meant to minimize a scar. Scar management can help conceal a scar but can’t eliminate a scar completely. Scars are unavoidable results are injury or surgery. Different types of scars include discolouration/surface irregularities, hypertrophic scars, keloids and contractors.

Scar Management

There are many different kinds of scar treatments. The most popular treatments include topical treatments, injectable treatments, and surface treatments. Dr. Tumi will recommend the best option for you. Topical treatments help wounds close and heal to prevent deep scarring. Injectable treatments, such as dermal filler, are used to fill in depressed or concave scars. Surface treatments such as skin bleaching and scar removal surgery, reduce pigmentation and soften surface irregularities. Some scars will require your plastic surgeon to close the incision.
